Here is part one of Craig's new E-Motion M25 power assist wheels. These replace his 5 year old Quickie Xtender wheels and then his one day Alber Twion wheels. Just search power assist wheels on our blog to learn his history.
My husband Craig first started using Power Assist wheels five plus years ago. The brand was Quickie Xtender assist wheels. We covered a lot about them in this blog/vlog if you want to learn more. Sadly those wheels may have had a lot of spoke issues, but overall they handled hills very well. The goal of power assist is to assist the user so they don't have to exert strain and effort when pushing their chair. Folks like Craig often end up with torn rotator cuff injuries, shoulder strain and in his case the osteoarthritis makes his pain worse. So having the assist wheels gave him needed relief and freedom to go up hills like nothing.
At the five year mark as you will read/see in our blog, the Xtender wheels broke on a shopping trip. Again check out the blog for details. Well as you will see he decided on trying the Alber Twion assist wheels. They arrived and watch here to see what happened.

He has now been waiting for his replaceement choice. Since Xtender is no longer an option and Twion was literally a no go up hills, Lord willing, the E-Motion M25 new edition will work well. Stay tuned, he has been waiting about 5 weeks. He hurt his shoulder the day he tried the Twion up our driveway and has really felt the strain as well as going so many months without the much needed assist wheels.They are definitely a blessing. Hope the new ones come soon.
Thanks to our neighbourhood finally being updated with fibre optics wifi, it will no longer take two hours to upload a ten minute video. That definitely kept me from posting videos like I wanted to. So excited! For instance, This half our video took about 30 minutes compared to hours!! To inspire me even more, watch and have fun with us as I learn and explore our brand new Cannon M100, I will be able to create more videos and Vlogs and Tutorials along with just plain stuff! To add to my new and improved ability to make more videos, tutorials and vlogs, we just received our new Cannon M100 camera. Today it was gorgeous outside so I got to go on a walk and talk, whilst I try out different camera/video settings! The video below is about that change and as well, since Craig has been a devoted Eglli's sheep farm cabin slipper fan for decades, we wanted to share his change to a new slipper style. Footwear matters when you have lack of sensation due to nerve damage. He has dealt with sores (not pressure related) to his ankle and foot for a long time. And as he has been sitting for over thirty years, swelling or edema has also caused concern and difficulty putting on his slippers, So we also show you the medical slippers from Egli's. Much easier for him to put on. Sheepskin is a great material to help prevent pressure ulcers for persons who are have issues like he does and for those spending the majority of time in bed. It helps to relieve pressure on the boney areas of the skin.

Speaking of Canada Day, here I am about 24 years ago in Ottawa! My earlier walking days
totally cool to use the phrase or word WALK or Walking. For decades I have always used it in reference to myself or others who use wheels for legs and for years, to describe moving from one place to another. On occasion, there are folks who are uncomfortable using the "W" word to describe that motion when we use wheels for legs. They sometimes have even pointed out to me that I do not walk! I understand they mean well, (I think they do) but it is very difficult to bite my tongue and not be sarcastic. "No way! You mean I can't walk!? That explains a lot!" See, hard to not be. Sorry, I didn't mean to offend anyone.
So please know, if you use a wheelchair, it is way okay to say you are going for a walk or some such thing. If you are someone who is not in need of having to use wheels for legs and are worried about using the Walk word, it's okay to say it. Yes, there are a few of my peers who may insist on specifying that the wheeled or rolled or went for a cruise, etc. But in all my years, I haven't met any person who would be offended if you used the "W" word in reference to their movement.

Oh, and An update on Craig's new replacement power assist wheels status. We will receive a quote from the dealer Monday so we can pay the client portion before they can order the set. We decided to try the TWION brand by Alber. Craig says "Twion" sounds like Elmer Fudd talking (think Bugs Bunny). He is trying on or will TWION, the Twion wheels. "You Wasscally Wabbit, you!"
I chose to campout last night in my power tilt wheelchair, planning on some big celebration fireworks, to go to sleep whenever we wanted to. But sadly, the country and our city cancelled them, thanks to you know what! So sad, but find out what ended up happening. Hi guys! Recent times have left many many people, without the care that they usually receive. It's hard to believe that the entire world has been impacted by one microscopic virus! But it has! Many of us who live with physical challenges, dependant on the arms and legs of others, most definitely had to figure out (and still do), how to not sick but to also how to live life in our home knowing folks from the "outside" world would be coming in to give us a hand. It was tricky knowing the protective equipment like masks, gloves and sanitizers were unavailable. Thankfully, due my vulnerability and need to avoid chest infections, we already had basic protective equipment. A larger order of medical masks from Amazon took about 8 or 9 weeks! (Amazon sure has been making a killing during this pandemic!)
In our case, I had a challenging time trying to hire a new Personal Care Attendant over the past four months. Wow, four months! Hard to grasp our big blue marble basically hold for that long. As it slowly started to roll more, we were finally blessed with a wonderful new addition to my care team! Thank You God for her and for my solo Attendant who assisted me daily over these past months. More thankful than I can say!
As for my dear husband, Hard to believe it has been five years since Craig first received his power assist wheels. So I thought it would affect my husband being able to get a seating clinic appointment, in order to get set up for a new pair of Power assist wheels. Many of the clinics and companies that we would deal with as you may already assume, have been on reduced hours and such. Well, about two weeks ago after Craig inquiring about making a seating clinic appointment, they actually called to make an appointment! Craig was out doing his grocery shopping run at the time, so I got to take the message. The amazing thing was, or I like to say the miraculous thing was there was a cancellation and he was able to get an appointment within a week!
Even More Miraculous...
Even more miraculous, Craig came home from the grocery store that very same afternoon, showing me how his five year old power assist wheels were no longer.
