Just When I Needed It Most

It's been a while since posting anything here. Doesn't mean life hasn't been happening, it's full speed ahead. We hope everyone is doing well and for those in our climate, we hope you join with us in being thankful for the mildest weather that we can ever remember.

Snow and cold are not "friends" to our wheelchair tires! So it was great to not be restricted with minus twenty and thirty celsius temps. Our van lift hydraulics don't like to budge in frigid weather either. Who can blame it. Not that I ever leave the house, but my husband does all the super market shopping and all other adventures beyond our driveway. For some reason, staying indoor creating when I can, is what I do. Fatigue has been regular visitor these days, so when I am up for brain engagement, I tend to focus on my other blogs all about creativity and then my shop blog, hoping to sell my work to help recover my art supply addiction!

Yes, most creative types have an art supply addiction. Even if you don't touch them, you just see something really cool and then feel the sudden urge to "GET THAT!" Does that sound like you or anyone you know? Then there is the problem with being sure I don't hide the supplies away. Out of sight, out of mind. It really helps to inspire me, to be able to see what materials I have to spur my never quiet right brain.

Craig, has been faithfully working on his railroad painting. Squeezing that in, between shopping, volunteering, helping me out and everything else. But, he still isn't done. As soon as he is, you will see.

Recently I contacted one of my favourite ministries and I was blessed with a personal response from a lovely sister in Christ, who just also happens to have SMA type 3, like me! Struggling with disgouragement about trying to find and hire a new Care Attendant. As always, God provides the right person at the right time,  His perfect time. But being a

human, I get tempted to worry and all that fun stuff. Happy to receive her response and to meet a person living who could relate to my life, is a rare thing. I love How God allows these encounters just when we need them. So I thought I would share her story from the JAF website for anyone else who may be interested.

" Craig Paints 2: Worlds Collide -"The Switchman" - Craig Shares His Life Stories

 Hi everyone! Hope all is well. We have been flying through summer keeping busy. Between creating,

with Craig working on his painting about his old job on the railroad in Canada. Finally getting our wheelchair lift repaired so I could get out too! Thankfully, it was  something fixable.

We were feeling sad though,  that the technicians and employees we trusted over the last 25 years or so have been leaving to start new adventures. Thankful that the only one we trusted with our under van lift, is still at the shop we frequent for all of our wheelchair/ mobility devices and repairs. As well as a couple favourite sales persons.

I know we have so many adventures and possibly helpful topics that we meant to share here at WWO, but haven't. Our hope is to vlog more - keeping this site like an online journal. We plan on sharing an update on the bed in a box we purchased last year, talk about our Hell Fresh experience, Talk about loss and relationships, aging with a disability, osteoarthritis, thought on the new SMA treatment, along with anything else that may seem useful, helpful or smile worthy.

Along with the good in life always comes the not so good. Craig recently lost his older sister suddenly, not something you are ever ready for.  And speaking of loss, Craig's loss of another filling in his molar - now means he is in need of a surgical extraction! 

For Now here is the first in what we hope will be  Craig sharing his pretty wild and crazy life stories. A lot can happen in 67 years!

This posting was just shared on our Sure Hope Gazette blog. Since these videos and this dear godly woman, my earthly hero, speaks from experience and pertains to our lives, it makes sense to share her message on this blog as well. We can only face each day because of our Saviour, our heart is that anyone who want to know about the Sure Hope we can all have, will get a lot out Joni's words.

And please don't think this message is only beneficial for persons living with physical disabilities. Not at all, this message is great for all of us. You may think, oh that's Joni, the lady who broke her neck in 1967 when she was 17. She's the lady who inspires people living with disabilities. That's great for them, but, I don't need to listen - it's not for me because I don't have a disability.
Well, we would ask you if you do think like that, please think again. Joni's message is always a powerful one to all people. Whatever you may struggle with or however you may feel, god blesses this amazing woman with a heart that shares the love of Christ. She encourages me, and millions of others. And we want to share more messages from her as we receive them to help inspire and motivate, spur on anyone who's heart longs for meaning, Sure Hope and New Life. Including seeing that quality of life is not about whether or not your body works, you are healthy or rich, successful as the world sees successful, come and hear what real Sure Hope is all about, from a woman who knows what of what she speaks.

The cool thing as often happens in my life, is how God has an amazing way of encouraging us just at the right moment, right when we need it. He knows what we need, when we need it. Today, He knew I needed to hear from my earthly hero who speaks about my Heavenly Hero, Jesus Christ. How our weaknesses really are our strengths because of Him. close to Him.  He cares about all aspects of our lives.

Welcome to Part 3 From our new "Craig Paints," series. Craig, my husband, shows us that anyone can learn how to create a great painting without any tutorials, formal training or even following the rules LOL.

In todays episode, Craig not only share life in Peggy's Cove (Craig's version), he also share what prompted him to paint. Originally he used watercolour. When he married me, he started dabbling with my leftover acrylic paints. I taught him the tips and tricks to using this fast drying/non-re-usable once dried medium and the rest is history!

He shares a very personal reason why he paints that may encourage others who are in a similar situation as he is.

Fun And Educational Life Vlog Video Channel Share: Squirmy And Grubbs

Meet Shane and Hannah! I have a special place in my heart of course for my fellow peers who were born with SMA (Spinal Muscular Atrophy, just like me!). Shane has a great sense of humour (a little dry for some, if you aren't use to it) and attitude about life,  living with SMA Type  2.

Shane, like myself, faced a shorter than most others, lifespan. That was until recently. Shane and many others have been blessed with a very new synthetic DNA treatment called Spinraza. Shane has to have an injection into his neck, directly to the spinal cord every four months! It is the first ever actual treatment for this life threatening disease. Type 1 is the number one genetic killer of infants, such as my beloved nephew at eleven days. It was created to replace the affected or missing genes to halt the atrophying effects of SMA. It is not a cure. However, because it now can be started as soon as a little one is born, they are living without the symptoms, as if the SMA was not there!

It is wonderful for those with type one and two. Shane has been using a wheelchair since he was two. He is now about twenty-sixish. The Spinraza has a mega high cost and must be taken for the rest of their life to maintain the effects. It costs hundreds of thousands for each treatment. It is covered by many people's health insurance in the USA. As for where I live in Canada...last I heard was the phone call survey I received from the Muscular Dystrophy Association, when I first learned about this amazing breakthrough. Canada was trying to decide if it would be approved for treatment here or not. Not sure what happened. Mostly because I am not interested in receiving it anyway. I personally  has blessed with a long life, I am about to be 53! And I can't travel to receive the injections. I leave when I move on, up to God.

Shane has noticed that he is actually gaining some abilities he lost a decade ago. He also has to accept that his life expectancy is now the same as the average healthy adult! It may sound odd, but I understand how challenging it can be to accept when you have been prepared your whole life to leave earth early. I was misdiagnosed at about seven,  when the "Specialist" told my Mom in front of me that I would be dead at twenty. (Duchenne's Muscular Dystrophy). Then re-diagnosed at thirteen with Spinal Muscular Atrophy. However, I didn't learn my life could be "normal" until I passed twenty one or two. I have doubled that age and still battle with preparing for physical death. It is a blessing but it would seem that once you are programmed to believe death will strike prematurely, it's challenging to accept and embrace life here, without pre-planning my life ending event. I am happy for Shane and think he will be just fine adjusting to the very amazing fact that he will no longer have to face a death sentence. And he has a very beautiful, funny, good natured girlfriend and caregiver,Hannah, to enjoy his new adventure called life! He was doing a great job before meeting Hannah too. She's a bonus enhancing his life!

I have been blessed and encouraged watching these two do life together. They laugh a lot and that is why so many fans watch, I am sure! So I hope you enjoy this couple's sense of humour as well as learn a lot about living with SMA and what interabled relationships can be like. You'll see why I said that when you watch their vlogs and tv interviews...Watch the video below to see. Thanks you two for helping to open the eyes of those who need to learn we are equal to everyone else. And thanks for encouraging you fellow peers to live life to the fullest, that love is for everyone. We just happen to do life in a unique way! And thanks for keeping it real!

What Was That? - Yup We Are Hearing Things Too

Yesterday, we posted this message on Facebook:  
"Curious...
Did anyone hear a sudden boom or loud rumble that lasted for a split second or more in Thunder Bay around 1:05pm EST? if you are thinking we're kooky research strange booms, mystery sky sounds...you'd be surprised." One friend heard it far away from us. No idea so far what that was. No, not a sonic boom. I even tried searching for seismic activity readings in our area but no success.

It isn't the first time we've heard strange sounds in our city. A while back my husband and I once again, just working at home suddenly heard some very loud almost trumpet like sounds. Tried to record them. Oddly enough, nothing can be heard except a few faint sounds. Strange thing is, the sounds were loud and long! They were identical to many sounds we've heard around the world when researching it online. If you are interested just Google Strange Sky Noises or Trumpet sounds.  Here is the video we made about that then.

Now for the newest on strange anomalies we've learned about.
We enjoy watching this channel called SecureTeam10. Tyler share what he finds as well as videos and experience that others send him. He isn't sensationalistic, just wanting to talk about what is really going on in our skies and earth. We don't hold to the same views like he and other do, like there really is extraterrestrial life out there. More on our position at the bottom of the page. Right now we want to share a very puzzling recent event that most of us never heard or felt. On September 11, 2018 a "hum" or low seismic activity went around the entire globe. No effects or rumblings. Check SecureTeam's video below where we first learned about it...

Another Channel we watch a lot is called MrBB333. He shares what people send him of all kinds of curious photos, sounds, observations and such, along with his research and a web sight he has that offers a one stop place to check out what's happening all around us, including the skies.
He elaborated on the September 11th event that travelled actross the earth over a period of days. What is even more curious is the location of the seismic event was at the same depth in each location, 6.2 miles down!

Well watching all this had me scratching my head. I  started looking around and discovered this article about how scientists plan to drill down to the earth's core (Click here to see). And what made my jaw drop was the fact that the total water and crust they have to drill through totals...6.2 miles! Here is the article if you are interested in learning more about that.

As Christians, based on our research, we can't ignore the plethora of sightings and encounters are real in many cases but, they are a distraction/deception from the enemy of our souls. If your interested in learningg more about this very real topic from a Christian point of view, especially since  many churches or Christians won't talk about it. Walking Way Overrated is about out lives and doesn't just mean talking about the physical disability aspect of them but our lives in general. That means topics we find relevant and want to share. A huge part of who we are is our love for Jesus Christ. We believe the Holy Bible is God's inerrant Word. As a result of our new life in Christ, our convictions are always increasing on what's right or wrong. In recent years we have bee actively researching many subjects such as discovering if certain conspiracy theories are true or not. Seeking truth in daily life matters to us as well as HIS Truth. Now you don't need to be a Christian to feel strongly that human life being valuable at all stages. Once you watch what this fellow below has to share, you will definitely be impacted.

Many of us have heard of Planned Parenthood and how they actually tragically, not only murder young babies, but also harvest and sell their body parts off to various companies. The reasons for this horrifying act isn't something I ever looked into, because the whole topic infuriates me so much, I tend to stay away from it, leaving it in God's hands. All things happen for a reason, so yesterday as I was watching a variety of videos on YouTube like I do daily, topics that most people I know are not interested in, up came this one. A fellow warning that the content to his video could be disturbing and was graphic - turn back if you don't want to be disturbed. So why would I watch something so disturbing? Well, it was clear the topic was important for people to know. Even though I had to turn away from the tragic images of murdered babies due to abortion, as shocked and mortified as I was, I knew we had to know this too. Which means, we feel the need to share our discovery with anyone else who wants to learn hard hitting realities. We can boycott companies, pray, educate and just walk awakened, rather than in the dark. So we strongly suggest watching this fellow's youtube video called, "HEK 293 GOOGLE IT And See What It Is. " His channel is called Watchman Jerry Toney.

If you watched it, once you process this eye opening information, we hope you share what you have learned with others. We definitely are re-evaluating what we buy and eat. Once we learn something like this, it is impossible to just ignore it and say nothing. Our comforting Hope is that all of these wee souls are in Jesus' Hands and that the offenders, criminals who do not repent and turn to Jesus for forgiveness, will receive God's real justice when it is His time. May God wake them all up and stop all of it.

UPDATE:

Since this topic is new to us, wanted to confirm what food companies to boycott. That's when I discovered a recent update saying that HEK293 fetal cells are no longer in any foods. Now, I am not sure yet if this is true. It would be great if it is. Here is the link to an article to learn more. Please do your own research before throwing out all your food stuffs. If boycotting made a difference, all the more reason to speak out! 

HeArtfully Creating: Some Thoughts and A Video: On Patreon And Earning ...

Hi, it's been a while since posting anything new on WWO. Hope you are all doing wll. It has been a busy few month creating between resting and dealing with being a middle aged, perimenopausal woman 😁😂😏😖😥😨😡, (I think these emoji's say it all!) More on the joys of aging as a woman another time! 
If you are new to WWO, my husband and I both live with physical disabilities. He's a retired letter carrier and uses a manual wheelchair due to Spina Bifida Occulta and all that can go with it, and I was born with Spinal Muscular Atrophy type 3. My legs are a power chair. My life has been and

continues to be be a great adventure. Walking Way Overrated was created to be a place to share a

variety of topics intended to not just have fun, but provide encouragement and resources for our peers and anyone interested in real life, reviews, insight and a few laughs. 

One huge area of my life is art making. Since the age of the internet, I have been enjoying creating creativity and art making tutorials for a YouTube channel and blog called HeArtfully Creating, as well as related Facebook groups and pages. See below for all those links if you want.
What's New?
Something very new that I wanted to talk about has been finally joining Patreon. That was a hard decision. Being  provided with an opportunity to earn any money to do what I love us an exciting opportunity. Because I spent most of my love not being able to work or earn a living, it is so great to see that persons living with a disability have opportunities I never did. A lot of us could earn a living if we could work at our own pace or as our health dictates, at home. So I don't repeat myself, I am sharing directly from my HeArtfully Creating blog along with a video about overcoming the talk of ignorant people if you need to be on assistance like I depended on.

Being an artist I have always wanted to earn a living making art.  After much contemplation and initially struggling with the idea of Patreon and after wanting to become a patron of other creators, I finally decided it was okay to set up a Patreon account, just to present it as an option to anyone interested. Yes, It feels weird even to talk about the idea of anyone giving any amount of money to support my creativity. Heck, I'm Not even comfortable telling people prices for my art work or setting prices in my Etsy shop. So please know that in no way do I expect anyone to make a pledge or sponsor what I do.  No matter how this adventure goes, as long as the Good Lord puts breath in my lungs, I will continue to create and share in whatever way possible.
What made me jump in?
I have concluded that if I enjoy learning from or like what other creators do, even though it's their choice to produce what they do, that to support what the do not just by giving them a thumbs up or positive comment, along with sharing their link -  by offering a dollar a month (or however much), then it helps encourage them even a wee bit to create more great content. Or it just helps to say thank you for what you do, I am watching/reading your stuff. 
Earning A Living
For many these days, creating you tube videos, tutorials and/or blogging is how they want to earn a living, hoping to leave their day job. Definitely, I can relate to that.

As an artist myself, I know the time and energy that can go into planning, filming, writing, editing, producing, and not to mention the equipment and software costs needed to provide quality visuals with good audio. (Obviously, that's not my content- yet! :0) So when I sign up to be a patron, I am simply trying to encourage them to keep doing what they do. That it may mean they can devote more time doing what they are so good at instead of having to stop creating or producing, to work at a job they don't love, to pay daily living expenses. Most folks are creating in their spare time for fun, which is great. For me, I started sharing on the internet what I do for fun, because I love talking and I really love teaching what I know, especially art making.

Not to mention, because of my life experience - living with a physical disability, and becoming a Christian, my heart feels lead to share what I have learned to hopefully encourage and help others. Makes sense since the lives of others encourages me.  Then ways became available to earn a little (for some, a lot) extra money doing what I love as a bonus. That's how I see earning platforms like,

Google Adsense (it took me about 4 years to earn $100) and Patreon (brand new to that one). Even though it works  out to .068 cents a day, it was still a rush receiving that deposit for doing what I enjoy. It definitely helps to encourage me to try harder and work even more. 

What If... When people Like, share and subscribe, as well as leaving positive comments on our pages and channels, that is a huge way to show support that I am thankful for. And these days, now having the possibility of receiving financial support to do what I love, is an added bonus making it possible to earn a living for some. 

If it is meant to be, and I am blessed with any support, depending on what happens, my hope aside to help contribute to our living expenses, but also (my dream list)  to obtain better equipment to record quality video tutorials and vlogs as well as editing software and such. Having a means to record videos and photos in a better way, have lighting, and a microphone, proper editing software and such would mean it would be possible to create a more enjoyable viewing and listening experience. Not to mention improving our internet speed/equipment for uploading the videos for our channel. If it didn't get so frustrating trying to upload, I would post more of them. In fact, the video for this post took about 4 attempts and a total of 5-6 hours to finally get it uploaded properly. Not sure why but on average, it takes about 2-3 hours or more to upload a 10-25 minute video and we are unable to use the laptop or our smart tv while it loads.

 As well if support is received, it could fulfill my life long dream, which is to earn money on my own, working at what I love and can do, being an artist. You may already know the progressive neuromuscular disorder I was born with, Spinal Muscular Atrophy 3, has meant depending on the help of others physically and financially (like my husband's retirement pension supporting us). I shared my thoughts and experiences on that topic in the video below.

Watch My Dad Build My Customized Desk

Hi there. A few years ago my talented Dad built me a huge customized desk. I  have had the footage since then and finally got it all put together into a video. He has built so many great pieces over my 52 years, the list is endless. This is the most recent. It is great to have a lot of surface area when you use a wheelchair. It means I can store things where I can see them and access them with ease. As a visual artist, collecting art supplies is an addiction. Having a large area with easy to pull drawers makes my artistic life possible. Thank you always to my wonderful Dad, and Mom too of course. Having caring parents without special needs is a blessing, and an even bigger blessing when you do have those unique needs.

Replacing A Mattress For Adjustable Bed: Watch Our "Unboxing" and Review of The Logan and Cove Mattress In A Box

Recently we realized our brand new twinxl mattresses that were only six months old, were just not helping my back. We have a great Leggett and Platt adjustable bed. See here to learn more about that in a previous post with video. The new mattress on my side was sinking too far after only a couple weeks. For sixteen years we have been using the same adjustable bed, but needed to replace the very excellent Sealy for adjustable beds, mattresses. Our king size bed is comprised of two twin xl beds.

Because bed support is super important for people with back issues, like severe scoliosis, it was clear we needed to replace the new Simmons mattresses from the Brick.

Not in the mood to figure out what would work best. Afraid of buying another wrong mattress, I tried researching the only brick and mortar stores I knew of like the Brick, Leons and Dufrenes. But nothing made me feel confident they would work out. Beds can't really be truly returned. In fact because twin xl's are custom made, the Brick said there was no way to return or exchange them. Not to mention, I was scared of wasting more money we didn't have.

Bed support is critical

So while we watched review after review about beds/mattresses, I remember seeing the Logan and Cove website pop up. Craig asked me to check out the Endy mattress online and I think that was how the other popped up. Needless to say, we ordered an Endy pillow (slept on it two nights- too firm, not squishable...more on that in the future) but, the mattress didn't feel right. Never interested in just a foam mattress, we moved on. Then after my exasperation set in, I just couldn't pick one confidently so on a whim and possibly Divine intervention, we ordered this mattress called Logan Cove from Novosbed in Canada.

What drew me was the hybrid luxury aspect of it, individually wrapped pocket coils that are 13 and 14 gauge, giving them better spring and support I assume. And it had layers of different support foams and bonus, it stated it was suitable for an adjustable bed!  Plus it has a 120 sleep night guarantee. The one draw back was, it had a pillow top. For me, I always avoided pillow tops, assuming they would compress and not be soft or be too soft. But this didn't stop me this time. There was a special "feeling" this time...just order it, you need a new mattress.

Because we never use the individual controls on our adjustable bed, I just need it to sit up and be comfy, we finally opted to buy a full king mattress. No more seam down the center and it was about three hundred dollars cheaper to buy a king as opposed to two twin xl's. The bed was ordered.

While we waited, I started browsing on Amazon and saw another similar looking mattress that has springs and foam, and was less than half the price. After a mild panic, asing Craig if we should cancel the new one and buy this really cheap one,  I called the L and C number a couple times asking questions. They were very nice. Needless to say, we got a grip and stayed committed to the L and C mattress. We concluded that we always learn lessons the hard way when we cheap out. After all, the Amazon one didn't have the same quality at all. You could tell from reading and comparing. Be careful about opting for what is cheap, it is why we already wasted money on the last mattresses and don't get me started on pillows! (more on that in the future).
